HOME 179: Marlene Malveau is well-educated and used to work as a teacher in a community school. Her husband bought this land and wanted to build a house, but he sadly died last year leaving four kids. Before he passed away, they rented a house in Port-au-Prince, but she could no longer afford it. Now they have all moved to this home, and Marlene says her biggest joy is peace of mind.

HOME 180: Guislaine Guerrier is 56 and the matriarch of a family of seven people. She has two daughters and two granddaughters. Her husband is in the Dominican Republic looking for job. One of her daughter’s husband died in gun violence; the other one is working on a farm. All seven of them will be staying in this new home.

HOME 181: Nadège Orelien is a mother of three, but unfortunately one of her children became very ill and died three months ago. The other two kids were at school when this picture was taken. She is a farmer and uses her backyard to grow crops and sell them at the flea market. Due to gun violence and the unstable situation in Haiti, she has been unable to sell her crops recently.

HOME 182: Gaëlle Jean has four kids. She used to live in Port-au-Prince but moved to Croix-des-Bouquets last year. We’ve built another little room for the two youngest kids since she had a bunk beds available. They had to sleep at the neighbors while we were building the house, but now they are very happy.
