Immediate Aid Needed in Haiti

Around 5pm local time on 12 January 2010, the already impoverished island of Haiti was devastated by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. Please read this article from CNN to learn more. Stay up to date with efforts with USAID.

You can help immediately by donating to the Red Cross to assist the relief effort. Contribute online to the Red Cross, or donate $10 to be charged to your cell phone bill by texting “HAITI” to “90999.”  Find more ways to help through the Center for International Disaster Information.

Long Term Rebuilding Effort

Please read the Fuller Center for Housing’s (our partner organization) response to the long term needs in Haiti. You can donate to our combined effort to address the long term housing needs of Haiti.

We are exploring the feasibility of participating in the long term reconstruction efforts. After the initial wave of search and rescue teams and first responders there will be a dire need for temporary housing, followed by trustworthy, permanent shelters. We are exploring our ability to move heavy equipment into the country, mobilize our resources, and begin working with our many partners to establish shelter plans for the people of Haiti.

In the short term you are invited to donate to the many immediate relief efforts (listed at the top of this page) as the most important step is to save and maintain the lives of survivors. In the future you will have the opportunity to donate directly to our efforts. Hopefully we will also provide the opportunity to physically participate in the long term rebuilding effort.
