What a difference a home makes...
We can all probably agree that we would like to see a safer, more peaceful world, but how? At Homes from the Heart, our answer begins with a home. Our home life touches most if not all other aspects of our lives, and this is especially crucial when talking about children. A safe, decent home gives a child a better chance of having good physical and mental health, academic achievement, and decreases their vulnerability to violence and crime.
When you help build a home, you are making a substantial difference. You're changing lives not just for the week or two that you're volunteering, but for many years into the future.
Volunteer teams go to El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Haiti on trips that are usually 1-2 weeks long. During their off days, groups experience the local tourism opportunities. These vary by country but can include surfing lessons, zip lining, museums, and artisan markets, as well as other attractions. During work days, teams are introduced to a local community, work alongside those they are helping, and get to know the people and culture first-hand.
How do I get involved?
Our projects don't require previous construction experience. We want to stay true to our motto, so that you can "just show up," and make a difference in the world. Most universities that join us form a group of their own, but we sometimes have team leaders who create what's called an open trip, a trip where anyone can apply to join them.
